Recently at a Half Ironman event, I overheard an athlete who was frazzled, dismayed and confused that she didn’t finish the swim. Now, these dreaded three letters are displayed next to her name: DNF (Did Not Finish). A well-meaning friend standing with her said: “You will get it next time. Just get back in the water and train.” Yes, great advice, and, no, poor advice. See, if the answer was simply training, she would have finished, and finished well. The challenge is the type of training. Is it deliberate? Is she addressing her deficiencies? Is she mindful of her body and movement patterns? Or is she simply going back and forth in the pool and confusing this with progress?

Your success will always be in the small details. “More isn’t better, better is better!”
