In my book, The Five B Method to a Successful Swim; Chapter II – Breathing, my goal was to substantiate the importance and absolute necessity to learn how to breathe. I truly believe it is one of the most important aspects for an endurance athlete to become a great swimmer!

So often I see athletes struggling with their movement and the ability to connect with the water and swim with a sense of fluidity with no real idea how to overcome their challenges. Many triathletes come into the sport with virtually no swimming background. Their lungs have never been trained in the ways of a swimmer and endurance athlete. Breathe and breathe well is something that Karel Lewit stressed: “If breathing is not normalized, no other movement pattern can be.” If you can’t demonstrate proper breathing out of the water, what makes you think you can do it in the water?

If this is something you struggle with or simply want to learn more about the importance of breathing mechanics and how it will help in your training and racing endeavors, please free to reach out and let’s talk and put a plan together.
