Week 53, Volume 53
In 1970 Simon & Garfunkel wrote a song, Feeling Groovy. The very first verse goes like this:
Slow down, you move too fast
You got to make the morning last
Just kicking down the cobblestones
Looking for fun and feeling groovy
Ba da-da da-da da-da, feeling groovy
Back in the 70s, as today, the simple message was we all need to slow down. We drive like we are going to a fire. We multitask when psychologists tell you it doesn’t work. We squeeze in 3 workouts in 1 day simply because 3 is better than 2. We fail to get enough sleep, recovery and rest to rejuvenate. We fail to do the necessary hard work and fool ourselves by working hard. We eat at our desks, in our cars, on the fly, and never stop to ask why. We fail to truly listen in our conversations because that will take time. We move quickly ahead in the attempt to save time. We are living in the past which is directly forging our future. We are making our lives more difficult than what they were designed for.
Stop, take a deep breath and listen to your body, your soul and your mind. It’s begging you to slow down. Your sympathetic nervous system is lit up like a Christmas tree. Ask yourself one question: When was the last time you really felt groovy?
